Mpire of Evil - Creatures of the black

Mpire Of Evil is not a band of new names, I´m not that familiar with drummer Antton or the bassplayer/singer Tony "Demolition man" Dolan but I certainly do know guitarist Mantas from his time in Black metal legends Venom. The trio will release their debut album in 2012 but the first taste from these metal heads is the 6 track EP "Creatures of the black" that contains 4 covers of bands that has influenced the band members along with 2 new original songs. Thumbs up for the excellent choice of the covers of Judas Priest´s "Exciter", AC/DC´s "Hell aint a bad place to be", Motorhead´s "Motorhead" and Kiss "God of thunder". They pull off some great versions and do it in the old school metal way, Tony Dolan reminds a bit of Lemmy and Eric Adams of Manowar. The band surprise me with their own "Reptile" that not only will please fans of Venom but also thrash metal fans of Metal Church and T.T Quick. And they sound so vital on the title track "Creatures of the black", I must say that this is a promising start and it will be interesting to see if they can deliver a full album of original tunes.
