Maintain Pool Safety Year Around

How safe is your pool? (Hint: A fence is NOT enough.)

Autumn is here... but that doesn’t mean swimming pool & water safety measures should fall off your radar. Even in fall and winter, pools can pose a life-threatening hazard. Did you know Over 1 million people drown each year—and more than half of those are children? And sadly, more than 5,000 dogs drown each year.

The good news is, you don’t have to resign yourself to living in fear: there are available solutions that can prevent accidents and provide priceless peace of mind.

Fences and pool covers serve a purpose, but let’s face it—they’re not foolproof. We’ve all heard horror stories about kids or pets finding their way around these barriers and making their way into the pool. And while disturbance sensors are excellent safeguards if you're not near the water, they're useless if another family member is swimming and doesn’t notice a toddler creeping dangerously close to the deep end.

Recently we were introduced to the Safety Turtle, an electronic alarm with a built-in range sensor. The alarm sounds whenever anyone comes near the water, loud enough to hear even if you were asleep or at the other end of the house. I have to admit we were a little skeptical at first, but after the first test we were sold.

The Safety Turtle is activated when a "personal immersion sensor" goes underwater. And what’s really cool is that the alarm is smart enough to tell the difference between rainfall and immersion, so it works on pools, hot tubs, and even natural bodies of water. Kids won’t mind wearing the colorful sensors, and they can even be attached to a wrist or a pet's collar.

By using smart devices like Safety Turtle for Kids and Safety Turtle for Pets, you can help keep everyone safe around water during the summer and beyond.
