ELYSIUM - RIDEABOUT40

The powerboat from Lake Constance wants to be ridden, not driven.

The “ELYSIUM Rideabout 40”, built from mahogany, teak and stainless steel in Langenargen at Lake Constance features an unique hull design, a raised and very special seat and steering position and luxury details on board.

“ELYSIUM Rideabout 40”, the name of the German power-boat, which was developed for inland waters as well as for the world’s oceans, is also program: The Rideabout has a length of 40 feet or twelve meters and is ridden by skipper and mate, not driven. As on a motor cycle, the skipper’s seat is a leather bench, 1.3 meters above the boat’s deck. Instead of a steering wheel, there is a teak covered handlebar with integrated controls and an independant joystick. The hull is consequently de-signed in V-form. Extraordinary is the straight prow, which is really cutting the water. The stern is fitted with hydraulically extensible bathing platform and is reminiscent of a “W”, a so-called “Twin V Back”. This one-of-a-kind boat, the ELYSIUM with a weight of eight tons, will be built in summer 2012 at the traditional shipyard Denninger & Maile in Langenargen.

The configuration: the developers and owners of “ELYSIUM – Fine Wooden Boats have taken up the cause of enthusiasm, maximum power and perfection. The owners of “ELYSIUM – Fine Wooden Boats”, the mechanical engineer Hans-Joachim Kurz from Langenargen and the designer and wood working engineer Hartmut Grupp from Aalen, always wanted to develop an optically impressive, powerful boat, remembering the former gentleman-race-boats. Additionally, it should have extraordinary driving qualities. Already in 2003, they began to draw the first construction plans. Then the name “Elysium” was focused. The Latin “Elysium” or ancient Greek “Elysion” is a paradisiac island of bliss in Greek mythology. It was the final resting place for those heroes, who were beloved by the Olympian Gods and were therefore given immortality.

“Our boat shall also be a kind of bliss, shall be perfect and fitted with all technical innovations”, says Hans-Joachim Kurz. It was also clear, that it should be built by a small, qualified shipyard on Lake Constance. The result: a glass fiber reinforced hull in V-form, built of form-glued mahogany, a teak parquet deck, eight automatically extensible seats for the passengers and the extraordinary, worldwide unique seat and steering position of skipper and mate. They scale the conning tower via some steps. Another also very classy item is the combination of multiple epoxy covered and painted mahogany hull with a shining off-white colored section at the stern. “We can, of course, offer other colors, the owner can also order the complete hull in mahogany”, says Hartmut Grupp. Also below deck, the ELYSIUM offers any comfort: two or three bunks in finest wood and leather and a complete shower cabin with integrated, automatically extensible toilet. The pantry is equipped with induction hob and icebox. Included in the price are high-tech audio and video entertainment center and air conditioning. “Classic and modernity will enter into a symbiosis”, so Hartmut Grupp. He himself is working in the furniture industry and concerning interior design, he is counseled by the experts of La Casa in Langenargen.
