Hurricane Jova Moves Toward SW Mexico

The U.S. National Hurricane Center says Hurricane Jova could make landfall on coastal southwestern Mexico by Tuesday.

The Pacific storm became a hurricane Saturday and is slowly moving toward Mexico with winds of 120 kilometers per hour.

Jova is expected to strengthen and may become a major storm before it reaches the Mexican coast. Forecasters say heavy rains from Jova could trigger flooding and landslides.

In the Atlantic, former hurricane Philippe has been downgraded and poses no threat to land.
