Would you be willing to hand your car over to a complete stranger? GM is hoping you will, because they have announced a new car sharing service which asks you to do just that.

Set to be launched early next year, the program was developed with RelayRides and allows owners to rent out their GM vehicles for profit. When a person needs a car, they simply launch a smartphone app, locate a nearby vehicle and make a reservation. They are then given directions to the car and can remotely unlock and start it through their phone.

Some consumers would probably feel a little anxious, but RelayRides provides a million dollar (€741,235) insurance policy to make the transaction "safe and convenient."
